Introduce healthier foods and less junk to make up your motocross nutrition.

The most common (and largely misguided) misconception about motocross is that all you need to know is how to ride a bike. We discussed before how there is far more to the sport, like training your body. Being in peak condition will help you keep up with the rigorous strain the sport will have on your body. If you are up-and-coming motocross athlete, there is another aspect of your training that you need to focus on – motocross nutrition.

Training your body only works if you are eating the right foods. Your daily nutrition affects the development of your body, allowing you to endure the harsh terrain of the track. Being frivolous with your eating habits can make your training efforts pointless. Truly gain something from your work out and learn what makes a proper diet.

Staying Hydrated

As with any sport, hydration is an essential fuel that keeps the body going. Water is always your best bet. It provides the right amount of stamina and a ton of benefits to the muscles. Water supplies fluids to the muscles’ cells, and without the right amount, your muscles can experience fatigue. Drink enough water before and during practice and when you race. If you need a guide for how much water to drink during these times, check the American College of Sports Medicine guidelines.

Stick to Basics: Fruits, Veggies, and Grains

So many people skimp on the vegetables, fruits, and whole grains they are supposed to eat. These basic food groups are a necessary part of your training. You won’t find a better source of vitamins, minerals, and fiber. The most important thing to remember is to eat whole grains and not white flour products. It’s better for your overall health and whole grain foods like pasta will help you prep for a race.

Snacking Carefully Without Ruining Progress

Diets can be hard. The temptation to eat certain foods and snack on anything you can find is downright unbearable. When training for motocross, you can snack but you have to make smarter choices. Avoid the junk food that you are used to eating and pick healthier options. Eat fruits and vegetables like oranges slices, strawberries, bananas, celery, peanut butter, and more. If you must eat junk food like chips and soda, keep it to a once a month type of thing.

Make Your Meats Leaner

Cutting the fat and grease out of your meals is a must, especially with your meats. If you want to make the most out of your training, we suggest sticking to fish and chicken, which will give you the protein you need. You can also add beef and eggs to your diet. Proteins are important for building muscles and performance. Find the right recipes for these sources of protein and you’ll be good.

Learn Portion for Your Motocross Nutrition Plan

While your new diet might be a drastic change, you should avoid overeating all at once. Eating too much will slow you down and kill your metabolism. We suggest portion control. Eat smaller dishes throughout the day and your body shouldn’t feel like it’s trying to digest everything at once. If you need a little extra help with your diet, sign up with the W Training Facility.
